Shining a Light on Our March 2 Concert!
We're thrilled to announce that our upcoming concert, "Darkness and Light," has been featured in this week's Iowa City Press-Citizen! A fantastic article, penned by our very own Assistant Conductor, Andrew Robinson, gives a wonderful preview of the program and the themes we'll be exploring.
As Andrew beautifully articulated in his article, "Darkness and light: a dichotomy as old as the universe. For centuries, choral music composers have created hundreds of compositions about darkness, light, or both." This concert, marking our 53rd season, delves into this timeless contrast, showcasing the beauty and diversity of these themes through a captivating selection of choral works.
If you haven't had a chance to read the article yet, here's a glimpse of what to expect:
A diverse program: From the dramatic "The Storm" by Joseph Haydn and the poignant "Tenebrae Factae Sunt" by Michael Haydn, to the radiant "O Lux Beatissima" by Howard Helvey and the powerful "Holding the Light" by B. E. Boykin, the concert spans a wide range of musical styles and periods.
Selections from Handel's Samson: We'll be performing multiple movements from this iconic oratorio, adding further depth and grandeur to the program.
Exceptional Soloists: We are delighted to feature the incredible talents of soprano soloist Kristen Eisenhammer and tenor soloist Nathan Brown.
Accompaniment by Mariya Akhadjanova: We are honored to be joined by guest collaborative pianist Mariya Akhadjanova, collaborative piano faculty at the University of Iowa.
Dual Conductorship: Music Director David Puderbaugh and Assistant Conductor Andrew Robinson will be sharing the podium, bringing their unique perspectives and expertise to the performance.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 2 in the stunning Voxman Music Building concert hall.
Don't miss this opportunity to experience the power and beauty of choral music. Tickets are available electronically and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Adult tickets are $20, and student tickets are free.
